Chapter Study & Analysis

Luke 9 details the mission of the twelve, the feeding of the five thousand, the Transfiguration, and the beginning of Jesus’ final journey toward Jerusalem. It challenges the disciples with the radical cost of following Him.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Daily Cross: Following Jesus is a daily decision to deny ourselves (v. 23). It is not a one-time event but a continuous lifestyle of surrender to His lordship.
2. Glimpses of His Glory: The Transfiguration (v. 29) reveals the hidden majesty of Christ. These spiritual heights are meant to sustain us when we face the cross and the trials of the valley below.
3. No Looking Back: To be fit for the Kingdom, one must not look back once they have put their hand to the plow (v. 62). We are called to a singular, forward-looking focus on Christ.

FORMAL PRAYER

King of Glory, who wast transfigured before Thy chosen witnesses: grant us the strength to take up our cross daily. Deliver us from the temptation to look back at the things we have left behind. Keep our eyes fixed on Jerusalem and the prize of our high calling in Thee. Amen.
