Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Luke 17 covers teachings on offenses, faith, and duty, followed by the healing of ten lepers and instructions regarding the coming of the Kingdom. It emphasizes the internal nature of God’s reign and the need for gratitude.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Unprofitable Servants: Even when we have done everything commanded, we have only done our duty (v. 10). This prevents pride from entering our service to God.
2. The Power of Gratitude: Ten lepers were cleansed, but only one returned to give thanks (v. 15-18). We must be intentional about expressing gratitude for God’s daily mercies.
3. The Kingdom Within: The Kingdom does not come with "observation" but is "within you" (v. 21). We should look for God’s reign in our hearts and character rather than in external political movements.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord, increase our faith. Grant us the humility to serve without seeking praise and the heart to return and give Thee thanks for every blessing. Rule within us by Thy Spirit, that we may live as citizens of Thy invisible and eternal Kingdom. Amen.
