Chapter Study & Analysis

Luke 20 involves a series of challenges to Jesus’ authority by the religious leaders. He responds with the Parable of the Wicked Husbandmen and provides definitive answers concerning taxes, the resurrection, and His own identity as David’s Lord.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Rejected Stone: The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner (v. 17). We must build our lives on the foundation of Christ, even when the world rejects Him.
2. Dual Responsibilities: Rendering to Caesar and to God (v. 25) teaches us to be responsible citizens while maintaining our primary allegiance to our Creator.
3. The God of the Living: God is not the God of the dead, but of the living (v. 38). This gives us hope for the resurrection and the assurance that our relationship with Him transcends physical death.

FORMAL PRAYER

O God of the Living, who art the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: teach us to render unto Thee the honor that is Thy due. Keep us firm upon the Chief Corner Stone and fill us with the hope of the resurrection, that we may live as Thy children forever. Amen.
