Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Luke 19 recounts the conversion of Zacchaeus, the Parable of the Pounds, the Triumphal Entry, and Jesus weeping over Jerusalem. It illustrates the mission of the Son of Man to seek and to save the lost.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Seeking the Lost: Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost (v. 10). As His followers, our mission should mirror His, looking for those whom society has written off.2. Occupy Till I Come: We are given "pounds" (resources and life) to use for the Master’s business until He returns (v. 13). We must be active and productive in our spiritual stewardship.
3. The Peace of Jerusalem: Jesus wept because the city did not know the "things which belong unto thy peace" (v. 41-42). We should share His grief for those who reject the peace found only in Him.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Savior, who didst enter Zacchaeus’ house with salvation: come and abide with us. Grant that we may occupy faithfully until Thou comest again. Give us Thy heart of compassion for the lost and the wisdom to know the time of our visitation. Amen.
