Chapter Study & Analysis

Luke 12 contains extensive warnings against hypocrisy, greed, and anxiety. Jesus exhorts His disciples to fear God alone, to be rich toward God rather than earthly possessions, and to live in constant readiness for His return.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Audience of One: Everything hidden will be revealed (v. 2-3). This is a call to integrity; we must live our private lives as if they were in the light of day before God.
2. The Cure for Anxiety: Consideration of the lilies and the ravens (v. 24-27) reminds us of God’s providential care. Worry is a distraction from the Kingdom; trust is the foundation of peace.
3. Faithful Stewardship: To whom much is given, much is required (v. 48). We are responsible for the light and resources we have received, and we must use them for the Master’s service until He returns.

FORMAL PRAYER

O God, who clothest the lilies and feedest the ravens: deliver us from the spirit of anxiety and the leaven of hypocrisy. Grant that we may be rich toward Thee, laying up treasures in heaven. Keep us watchful and ready, with our loins girded and our lights burning. Amen.
