Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Joshua 6 recounts the fall of Jericho. Following God’s unusual instructions, the army circles the city for seven days. On the seventh day, after seven circuits and a great shout, the walls fall flat, and Rahab is saved.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. God’s Unconventional Ways: Jericho was won not by siege engines but by marching and shouting (v. 2-5). We must be willing to follow God’s logic, even when it seems foolish to the world.
2. The Power of Silence and Sound: There was a time for silence and a time for the shout (v. 10, 16). Discernment is knowing when to wait quietly on God and when to proclaim His victory boldly.
3. The Curse of the Accursed: The city was "accursed" (devoted to destruction), and taking from it brought trouble (v. 18). We must be careful not to touch or desire that which God has designated as harmful or forbidden.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Almighty God, before whom the strongest walls must fall: grant us the patience to walk in obedience and the faith to shout in victory. Keep us from the accursed things of this world and help us to walk in Thy triumph. Amen.
