Joshua 13 Study & Commentary
Joshua 13 describes the land that yet remained to be possessed as Joshua grew old. It recounts the inheritance given by Moses to the two and a half tribes east of the Jordan and confirms that the tribe of Levi received no land, for the Lord was their inheritance.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Unfinished Tasks: Even at the end of a long life, there remains "much land to be possessed" (v. 1). We must remain active in our calling as long as we have breath.2. God as our Portion: The Levites had no earthly estate because God Himself was their inheritance (v. 33). True security is found in our relationship with God, not in material holdings.
3. Honoring Past Commitments: Joshua respects the allocations made by Moses years prior. Integrity involves honoring the promises and structures established by those who came before us.
