Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Joshua 19 completes the distribution of land for Simeon, Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan. It concludes with Joshua receiving his own inheritance at Timnath-serah after all the others were served.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. The Servant Leader: Joshua received his portion last, only after all the tribes were settled (v. 49-50). True leadership is characterized by self-sacrifice and putting the needs of the people before one’s own.
2. God’s Faithful Provision: The detailed list of cities confirms that God provided a home for every family. We can trust that God has a place and a purpose for every member of His Body.
3. The Importance of Community: The tribes were settled in relation to one another, showing that we are designed to live in a community of mutual support and accountability.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord Jesus, our great Leader who became the servant of all: teach us to seek the welfare of others before our own. We thank Thee that there is a place for everyone in Thy Kingdom and a home for every soul in Thee. Amen.
