Chapter Study & Analysis

Joshua 15 outlines the extensive borders of the inheritance of Judah and mentions the capture of Hebron and Debir. It notes that Judah could not fully drive out the Jebusites from Jerusalem.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Specific Blessings: The detailed borders show that God’s provision is specific and ordered (v. 1-12). God knows exactly what we need and provides for us with divine precision.
2. Encouraging Valor: Caleb offered his daughter in marriage to whoever conquered Debir (v. 16-17). We should encourage and reward those who take bold steps of faith within the community.
3. The Danger of Incomplete Victory: The failure to drive out the Jebusites (v. 63) left a thorn in Israel’s side. We must be thorough in addressing spiritual compromises, lest they become permanent obstacles.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord, who hast appointed the bounds of our habitation: grant us the courage to fully possess all that Thou hast given us. Help us to leave no stronghold of the enemy in our lives, that we may serve Thee in total freedom. Amen.
