Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Joshua 10 describes the battle against the five kings of the Amorites. God intervenes with great hailstones and causes the sun and moon to stand still at Joshua’s request, resulting in a total victory for Israel.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. God Fights for His People: "For the Lord fought for Israel" (v. 14, 42). The credit for our greatest victories belongs to God’s supernatural intervention, not our own prowess.
2. Boldness in Prayer: Joshua’s prayer for the sun to stand still was unprecedented (v. 12). God invites us to pray big prayers that align with His purposes and demonstrate His power to the world.
3. Total Conquest: Joshua did not leave the work half-done; he pursued the kings until the victory was complete (v. 19, 40). We must be thorough in our spiritual battles, not allowing strongholds to remain.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord God of hosts, before whom the sun and moon stand still: we thank Thee that Thou fightest for us. Increase our faith to pray bold prayers and grant us the strength to complete the work Thou hast given us to do. Amen.
