Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Joshua 21 recounts the allocation of forty-eight cities and their suburbs to the Levites from the territories of the other tribes. The chapter concludes with the affirmation that God gave Israel all the land He had sworn, and not one of His good promises failed.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. The Ministry of Presence: By living among all the tribes, the Levites brought the knowledge of the Law to every corner of the nation (v. 41). We are called to be salt and light exactly where we are planted.
2. Supporting the Ministry: The other tribes provided for the Levites out of their own inheritance. We have a responsibility to support those who minister the Word among us.
3. Unfailing Promises: "There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken... all came to pass" (v. 45). This is a foundational pillar for faith: God’s track record is perfect.
