Chapter Study & Analysis

Romans 7 describes the believer’s release from the Law and the ongoing struggle with the indwelling "flesh." Paul illustrates the frustration of wanting to do good but finding another law at work in his members, leading to the cry for deliverance.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Limits of the Law: The Law is holy and good, but it cannot produce righteousness in us; it only exposes our sin (v. 12-13). We must look to Christ, not the Law, for the power to live correctly.
2. Understanding the Internal Struggle: Every believer experiences a conflict between their new nature and the "flesh" (v. 22-23). This struggle is normal and should drive us to a greater dependence on God’s grace.
3. The Source of Deliverance: The answer to the cry "Who shall deliver me?" is "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord" (v. 24-25). Victory is found in a Person, not a program.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, we confess that in our flesh dwelleth no good thing. We thank Thee for the Law which shows us Thy holiness, but we thank Thee more for Christ who delivers us from the body of this death. Keep us looking unto Him as our only hope and strength. Amen.
