Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Romans 11 explains that God has not cast away His people Israel. Paul uses the metaphor of the olive tree to show how Gentiles have been grafted in, while warning against pride and revealing the future mystery of Israel’s restoration.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. A Remnant of Grace: Even in times of widespread apostasy, God keeps for Himself a remnant (v. 5). We should be encouraged that God’s work continues even when it is not visible on a large scale.
2. Warning Against Spiritual Pride: Gentile believers are warned not to boast against the original branches (v. 18). We stand only by faith and grace; any sense of superiority is contrary to the Spirit of Christ.
3. The Depth of God’s Wisdom: The chapter ends in an outburst of praise for God’s unsearchable judgments (v. 33). When we reach the limits of our logic, our only proper response is worship.
