Chapter Study & Analysis

Romans 12 marks the shift to practical exhortation. Paul calls believers to be "living sacrifices," to renew their minds, and to exercise their spiritual gifts in humility and love, serving one another and even their enemies.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Total Consecration: We are called to present our bodies as a living sacrifice (v. 1). Worship is not just a song; it is the daily offering of our entire lives to God’s service.
2. The Renewed Mind: We must not be conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of our minds (v. 2). Our thinking must be filtered through Scripture rather than the values of the surrounding culture.
3. Radical Love: We are instructed to overcome evil with good (v. 21). This unconventional response to hostility is the most powerful testimony of the life-changing power of Christ.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty God, we present our lives to Thee this day. Renew our minds by Thy Spirit, that we may discern Thy good and perfect will. Grant us the grace to love without dissimulation and to overcome evil by the power of Thy goodness. Amen.
