Chapter Study & Analysis

Romans 3 concludes the universal indictment of sin, stating that "there is none righteous, no, not one." It then unveils the core of the Gospel: justification is a free gift by God’s grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, received by faith.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Equality of Need: Both the religious and the irreligious have "sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (v. 23). This levels the ground at the foot of the Cross; no one can boast in their own merit.
2. Justification by Faith: We are justified freely by His grace (v. 24). Our standing before God is not earned by our performance but is a gift credited to us through faith in the blood of Jesus.
3. God’s Righteousness Vindicated: The Cross shows that God is both "just" and the "justifier" (v. 26). He does not ignore sin; He paid for it Himself so that He could legally and lovingly forgive us.

FORMAL PRAYER

Gracious Father, who hast set forth Thy Son to be a propitiation through faith in His blood: we confess our utter need of Thy mercy. We thank Thee that our boasting is excluded by the law of faith. Keep us humble and secure in the righteousness of Christ alone. Amen.
