Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Revelation 20 describes the thousand-year reign (Millennium), the final defeat of Satan, and the Great White Throne Judgment. All the dead, small and great, stand before God to be judged according to their works as recorded in the books.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Resisting the Deceiver: Satan is the "deceiver of nations" (v. 3, 8). We must remain vigilant even in times of apparent peace, knowing the enemy’s nature is always to deceive.
2. The Book of Life: Only those whose names are "written in the book of life" escape the second death (v. 15). The most important reality of our existence is our standing before God through faith in Christ.
3. Judgment of Works: Everyone will be judged according to their deeds (v. 12). While we are saved by grace, our lives on earth carry eternal significance and accountability.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Almighty God, who shalt judge the quick and the dead at Thy appearing: grant that our names may be found written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Deliver us from the second death and help us to live in the light of Thy coming Kingdom. Amen.
