Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Revelation 18 laments the fall of "Babylon the Great." It describes the mourning of the kings, merchants, and sailors who profited from her luxury and sin, while the heavens are called to rejoice over her judgment.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Come Out of Her: "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins" (v. 4). We are called to live *in* the world but not be *of* the world’s corrupt system and values.
2. The Fragility of Wealth: In "one hour" all the great riches of Babylon come to nought (v. 17). We must not put our trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God who remains forever.
3. Rejoicing in Justice: Heaven rejoices when the blood of the saints is avenged (v. 20). True justice is not a cause for sorrow but for the vindication of God’s holiness and the relief of the oppressed.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Lord, help us to come out from the world’s spirit and be separate, that we may not partake of her sins or her plagues. Grant us to build our lives upon that which is eternal and to rejoice in Thy righteous judgments. Amen.
