Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Revelation 16 describes the pouring out of the seven vials (bowls) of God’s wrath. These plagues affect the earth, sea, sun, and the throne of the beast, culminating in the battle of Armageddon and the final collapse of the cities of the nations.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Vigilance in the End: "Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth" (v. 15). We must live in a state of spiritual readiness, keeping our "garments" (righteousness) so we are not found naked.
2. The Severity of Unbelief: Despite the bowls of wrath, men "blasphemed the God of heaven" and "repented not of their deeds" (v. 11). Hardness of heart is the ultimate barrier to God’s mercy.
3. The Gathering for War: The forces of evil gather at Armageddon (v. 16), but their end is certain. Our hope is not in world peace through human effort, but in the final victory of the coming King.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Lord, who art righteous in all Thy judgments: grant us to watch and keep our garments pure in these last days. Deliver us from the hardness of heart that refuses to repent, and keep us steadfast unto Thy coming. Amen.
