Chapter Study & Analysis

God commands Moses to avenge Israel of the Midianites for their role in the sin of Baal-peor. 12,000 men go to war and utterly defeat them, slaying five kings and Balaam. The spoil is divided between the warriors, the congregation, and the LORD. Not one Israeli soldier was lost in the battle.
1. Accountability for Sin: Those who lead others into spiritual stumbling (like Midian) will eventually face God’s judgment.
2. Divine Protection: The miraculous survival of every soldier shows that God preserves those who fight His battles.
3. Purity after Victory: The soldiers and the spoil had to be purified, reminding us that even in our triumphs, we must remain holy.
