Chapter Study & Analysis

Moses declares the law regarding vows. A man must fulfill every word that proceeds out of his mouth. For women, the vow could be disallowed by a father or husband if they heard it on the day it was made, emphasizing the principle of headship and protection.
1. Integrity of Speech: Our "yes" should be "yes." God takes our promises seriously and expects us to be people of our word.
2. Authority and Protection: The laws regarding women’s vows provided a safeguard against rash promises and maintained the order of the home.
3. Responsibility before God: Once a vow is confirmed or silent approval is given, the responsibility to fulfill it is binding before the LORD.
