Chapter Study & Analysis

Two silver trumpets are made for calling the assembly and for sounding the alarm for war. Israel finally departs from Sinai in a specific marching order. Moses invites Hobab to join them, saying, "Come thou with us, and we will do thee good."
1. The Certain Sound: The trumpets represent the clear proclamation of God’s Word; if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare for battle?
2. Evangelistic Heart: Moses’ invitation to Hobab shows that God’s people should always invite others to share in the blessings of the journey.
3. Prayer for the Journey: Moses’ prayer ("Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered") shows that we must start every new phase of life with prayer.
