Overview
The people complain, and the fire of the LORD burns among them at Taberah. Lusting for meat, they despise the manna. Moses, overwhelmed, complains to God, who appoints seventy elders to help him. God sends quails but strikes the people with a great plague while the meat is yet between their teeth.
Practical Lessons
1. Danger of Murmuring: Complaining is a rejection of God’s provision and invites His judgment.
2. The Burden of Leadership: God provides support (the seventy elders) when the task becomes too heavy for one man.
3. Be Careful What You Ask For: God may grant a sinful desire to show its emptiness; leanness of soul often follows worldly satisfaction.
