Chapter Study & Analysis

Israel commits whoredom with the daughters of Moab and bows to their gods. A plague strikes the camp. Phinehas, son of Eleazar, executes judgment on a prince of Israel and a Midianitish woman, staying the plague. God grants Phinehas a "covenant of peace."
1. Internal Threat vs. External: Balaam couldn’t curse Israel, but he taught the enemy how to make Israel curse themselves through compromise.
2. Holy Zeal: Phinehas’ quick action against sin saved the nation, showing that God values those who take a stand for His holiness.
3. The Danger of Bad Associations: Friendship with the world is enmity with God and leads to spiritual adultery.
