Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Samuel 7 recounts the spiritual reformation led by Samuel. Israel puts away their idols and gathers at Mizpeh. God grants them a miraculous victory over the Philistines, celebrated by the Ebenezer stone.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. True Repentance: Samuel insisted that Israel "put away the strange gods" (v. 3). Repentance is a decisive turn away from sin.
2. The Power of Intercession: The prayers of a righteous leader are a nation's greatest defense (v. 10).
3. Ebenezer: "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us" (v. 12). We must establish "stones of remembrance" for God's past faithfulness.

FORMAL PRAYER

Hitherto hast Thou helped us, O Lord! Be Thou our Ebenezer, our constant help and our shield against every enemy. Amen.
