Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Samuel 6 details the return of the Ark to Israel. After seven months of plagues, the Philistines return the Ark on a new cart, acknowledging the power of the God of Israel.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Recognizing Divine Discipline: The Philistines realized their suffering was the hand of God (v. 9). We must be discerning to recognize God's voice in trials.
2. The Cost of Irreverence: The men of Beth-shemesh were struck down for looking into the Ark (v. 19). Familiarity with sacred things must never lead to a loss of awe.
3. Restoration: God always makes a way for His glory to return to His people when they acknowledge Him.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord, teach us to handle Thy holy things with fear and trembling. May we never lose the sense of Thy majesty. Amen.
