Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Samuel 30 tells of the raid on Ziklag. While David was away, the Amalekites burned the city and took the women and children. David "encouraged himself in the Lord," pursued the enemy, and recovered everything.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Encouraging Yourself in God: When everyone was against him, David turned to God (v. 6). We must learn to find our strength in the Lord when human support vanishes.
2. Total Recovery: God promised David he would "without fail recover all" (v. 8). What the enemy steals, God is able to restore when we seek Him and obey His direction.
3. Generosity in Victory: David shared the spoil even with those too exhausted to fight (v. 24). Grace dictates that we share God’s blessings with others, regardless of their perceived contribution.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, when we are distressed and discouraged, teach us to find our strength in Thee. Grant us the courage to pursue what the enemy has stolen and the heart to share Thy bounty with others. Amen.
