1 Samuel 12 is Samuel’s farewell address as judge. He testifies of his integrity, rebukes the people for their sin in asking for a king, and calls for a sign of thunder and rain during the wheat harvest to confirm God’s displeasure.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. A Legacy of Integrity: Samuel could stand before all Israel and challenge anyone to find a fault in his character (v. 3). Integrity is the true currency of a servant of God.2. The Danger of Forgetfulness: Samuel reminded the people of how God delivered them in the past (v. 9-11). Forgetting God’s past mercies is the first step toward future rebellion.
3. The Power of Intercession: Even when the people sinned, Samuel committed to "not sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray" for them (v. 23). Intercession is a duty, not an option.
