Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Samuel 3 records the prophetic call of Samuel. While still a child, Samuel hears the voice of the Lord in the Tabernacle. God confirms the impending judgment on the house of Eli, and Samuel is established as a trustworthy prophet in all Israel.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Sensitivity to God's Voice: Samuel did not yet know the Lord personally when He first called (v. 7). We must learn to distinguish God's voice from the "noise" of the world through spiritual mentorship.
2. The Courage to Speak Truth: Samuel had to deliver a difficult message of judgment to his mentor, Eli (v. 18). True ministry requires the integrity to speak the whole counsel of God.
3. Availability: Samuel’s response, "Speak; for thy servant heareth" (v. 10), is the ultimate posture for any believer.

FORMAL PRAYER

Speak to our hearts, O Lord, for Thy servants listen. Grant us ears to hear Thy call and the courage to proclaim Thy Word with faithfulness. Amen.
