Chapter Study & Analysis

Judges 16 covers Samson’s encounter with Delilah, his betrayal, the loss of his strength, and his imprisonment. It concludes with his final act of strength, pulling down the temple of Dagon and killing more in his death than in his life.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Cost of Compromise: Samson’s repeated dallying with temptation eventually led to the loss of his sight and strength (v. 19-21). Sin blinds, binds, and ultimately grinds down the soul.
2. The Source of True Power: Samson’s strength was not in his hair, but in his relationship with God (v. 20). When the Lord departed, he was like any other man. Our only true power is the presence of God.
3. Grace in the End: Even in his failure and humiliation, God heard Samson’s final prayer (v. 28). It is never too late to turn back to God for a final act of service or a restoration of purpose.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord God, remember us, we pray Thee, and strengthen us. Deliver us from the temptations that would rob us of our spiritual sight and strength. Grant us a finish that honors Thee, regardless of our past failures. Amen.
