Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Judges 15 details Samson’s revenge against the Philistines for taking his wife. He burns their crops with foxes and torches and later slays a thousand men with the jawbone of an ass, followed by God providing water for his thirst.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Resourcefulness in Battle: Samson used what was available—foxes and a jawbone (v. 4, 15). God is not limited by our lack of sophisticated tools; He empowers the "lowly" things to achieve great victories.
2. God as the Provider of Strength: After a great victory, Samson was ready to die of thirst (v. 18). This reminds us that even the strongest among us are utterly dependent on God for the most basic needs.
3. Solitary Faithfulness: Samson often fought alone. While community is vital, there are times when we must stand for the truth even if no one else joins the battle.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Lord, who providest water in the desert and strength in the battle: we acknowledge our total dependence on Thee. Grant us the resourcefulness to serve Thee in every circumstance and the humility to give Thee the glory. Amen.
