Chapter Study & Analysis

John 6 contains the feeding of the five thousand and the Bread of Life discourse. It is a chapter of crisis where Jesus sifts His followers, moving them from seeking physical bread to understanding the necessity of spiritual union with Him.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Bread of Life: Jesus is the only sustenance that satisfies the soul’s hunger (v. 35). We must feed on Him through faith and the Word to maintain spiritual vitality.
2. Walking on Water: In the midst of the storm, Jesus’ "It is I; be not afraid" (v. 20) is the anchor for the troubled soul. His presence is superior to any natural crisis.
3. The Words of Eternal Life: When many walked away, Peter’s confession—"To whom shall we go?" (v. 68)—is the cry of the true disciple who recognizes that there is no alternative to the Truth of Christ.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Heavenly Manna, who didst satisfy the hungry in the wilderness: be Thou our daily bread. In the storms of this life, draw near to us and say, "Be not afraid." When the world entices us to turn back, grant us the grace to cling to Thy words, which are spirit and life. Amen.
