Chapter Study & Analysis

John 4 records the encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well and the healing of the nobleman’s son. Jesus breaks social, ethnic, and religious barriers to reveal Himself as the "Living Water" and the Savior of the world.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Worship in Spirit and Truth: Jesus defines worship not by location (Gerizim or Jerusalem) but by nature (v. 23-24). True worship is a heart-response to the reality of who God is.
2. The Living Water: Christ offers a satisfaction that the world cannot provide (v. 14). Our "wells" of career, relationships, or status always run dry, but His grace is a springing fountain.
3. Fields White for Harvest: Jesus calls His disciples to see the spiritual potential in unlikely people (v. 35). The Samaritan village became a harvest field through one woman’s testimony.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Savior of the World, who didst sit weary by the well to seek a lost soul: grant us that Living Water, that we may never thirst again for the vanities of this life. Teach us to worship Thee in Spirit and in Truth, and give us eyes to see the harvest fields that lie before us. Amen.
