Chapter Study & Analysis

Mark 6 details Jesus’ rejection in His hometown, the mission of the twelve, and the tragic death of John the Baptist. It also contains the feeding of the five thousand and Jesus walking on the water, highlighting His tireless service.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Limitation of Unbelief: In Nazareth, unbelief hindered the manifestation of Christ’s power (v. 5-6). We must guard our hearts against the familiarity that breeds contempt for God’s work.
2. The Cost of Truth: John the Baptist’s martyrdom (v. 27) reminds us that following God may require the ultimate sacrifice. Integrity is more valuable than life itself.
3. Compassion in Weariness: Even when seeking rest, Jesus saw the multitude as "sheep not having a shepherd" and moved to help them (v. 34). We are called to a similar selfless compassion.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Good Shepherd, who hadst compassion on the shepherdless crowds: feed us with the bread of Thy Word. Grant us the courage of Thy martyrs and a heart that is never too weary to serve those in need. Strengthen our faith, that we may not walk in unbelief. Amen.
