Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Mark 5 presents three dramatic encounters: the deliverance of the Gerasene demoniac, the healing of the woman with the issue of blood, and the raising of Jairus’ daughter. Each demonstrates Christ’s absolute power over life’s greatest crises.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. The Power of Transformation: The demoniac, once wild and bound, was found "clothed, and in his right mind" (v. 15). No one is beyond the reach of Christ’s restoring power.2. The Touch of Faith: In a crowding world, it was the specific, desperate touch of faith that drew power from Jesus (v. 30-34). We must reach out to Him with personal intentionality.
3. Be Not Afraid, Only Believe: Jesus’ words to Jairus (v. 36) remain the comfort for every parent and every soul facing the finality of death. He is the Lord of Life.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Lord of Life and Mercy, who didst heal the suffering and raise the dead: we adore Thee for Thy boundless power. Grant us the faith to touch the hem of Thy garment and the courage to believe Thy word even in the face of death. Amen.
