Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Mark 16 records the resurrection of Jesus, His appearance to Mary Magdalene and the eleven, and His final ascension. It concludes with the Great Commission and the promise of signs following those who believe.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. The Reality of the Resurrection: The empty tomb (v. 6) is the cornerstone of our faith. Because He is risen, we have a living hope that transcends the grave and transforms our present reality.
2. The Commission to Go: Disciples are commanded to go into "all the world" (v. 15). This mandate remains the primary mission of the Church—to proclaim the Good News to every creature.
3. Divine Confirmation: As the disciples went forth, the Lord worked with them, confirming the word with signs (v. 20). When we step out in obedience to His command, we can expect His presence and power to accompany us.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Risen Lord, who hast triumphed over death and ascended to the right hand of the Father: empower us by Thy Spirit to be Thy witnesses. Grant that we may proclaim Thy Gospel with boldness, knowing that Thou art working with us and through us until the end of the age. Amen.
