Chapter Study & Analysis

Mark 3 records the appointment of the twelve Apostles and the increasing opposition from both religious leaders and Jesus’ own family. It introduces the warning against the unpardonable sin and redefines the true family of God.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Doing Good at All Times: Jesus’ healing on the Sabbath (v. 4-5) teaches that religious rules should never prevent us from showing mercy and doing good to those in distress.
2. The Call to Be With Him: The primary purpose of the Apostles was "that they should be with him" (v. 14). Our first calling as disciples is intimacy with Christ before our public mission begins.
3. Spiritual Unity: A house divided against itself cannot stand (v. 25). We must strive for unity within the body of Christ to effectively withstand the assaults of the enemy.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Eternal King, who hast called us to be with Thee and to serve Thee: grant us a spirit of unity and love. Deliver us from the hardness of heart that values ritual over mercy, and make us faithful members of Thy true family through obedience to Thy will. Amen.
