Chapter Study & Analysis

Mark 15 details the trial before Pilate, the mockery by the soldiers, the crucifixion, and the death of Jesus. It focuses on His silence, His suffering as the Son of God, and His burial by Joseph of Arimathea.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Silence of the Lamb: Jesus’ refusal to answer His accusers (v. 4-5) shows a profound trust in God’s ultimate vindication. Sometimes the greatest testimony is a quiet trust in the midst of false accusation.
2. The Rent Veil: At the moment of His death, the veil of the temple was torn in two (v. 38). This signifies that the way to God is now open to all, from the least to the greatest, through the sacrifice of Christ.
3. The Recognition of the Cross: It was a Roman Centurion who first confessed, "Truly this man was the Son of God" (v. 39). The Cross has the power to reveal Christ’s identity even to those who were once His enemies.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Crucified Savior, who didst bear the weight of our sins in Thy body on the tree: we adore Thee for Thy finished work. By Thy death, Thou hast opened the way to the Father. Grant us the courage to take up our cross and follow Thee, even through the shadow of death. Amen.
