Chapter Study & Analysis

Hebrews 9 contrasts the earthly tabernacle with the heavenly one. It explains that while the old sacrifices had to be repeated, Christ entered once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us through His own blood.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Power of the Blood: If the blood of bulls and goats sanctified the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ purge our conscience (v. 13-14). We are cleansed not just from legal guilt, but from the internal weight of "dead works."
2. Once for All: Christ was "once offered to bear the sins of many" (v. 28). We must reject any religious system that attempts to "re-sacrifice" Christ; His work is finished and sufficient.
3. The Appointment of Death: "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (v. 27). This reality should lead us to a sober evaluation of our lives and a total reliance on the Advocate provided by God.

FORMAL PRAYER

O God, who hast through the eternal Spirit offered Thy Son without spot: purge our consciences from dead works to serve Thee, the living God. We thank Thee for the blood of the New Testament, shed for the remission of our sins. Amen.
