Chapter Study & Analysis

Hebrews 8 summarizes the "sum" of the argument: we have a High Priest set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. This introduces the New Covenant, which is established upon "better promises" and written on the heart.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Minister of the True Tabernacle: Christ serves in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man (v. 2). Our worship is directed toward the heavenly reality, not just earthly shadows.
2. A Better Covenant: The New Covenant is superior because it is based on God’s grace rather than human performance (v. 6-8). It provides the internal power to obey that the old Law could not give.
3. Law Written on the Heart: God promises, "I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts" (v. 10). True Christianity is an internal transformation of the desires, not just an external adherence to rules.

FORMAL PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we thank Thee for the New Covenant established upon better promises. Write Thy laws upon our hearts and minds, and be merciful to our unrighteousness, remembering our sins and iniquities no more, for Christ’s sake. Amen.
