Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Samuel 6 describes the bringing of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. The journey is interrupted by the death of Uzzah for touching the Ark, but eventually, David brings it into the city with great joy and dancing, despite Michal’s contempt.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Holiness is Not a Suggestion: Uzzah’s death (v. 7) reminds us that we cannot handle sacred things with "casual" familiarity. God must be worshipped on His terms, not ours (using a cart instead of the priests' shoulders).
2. Worship Without Shame: David danced with all his might, unconcerned with his royal dignity (v. 14). True worship is focused on God’s glory, not on preserving our own image before men.
3. The Danger of Spiritual Cynicism: Michal’s heart was cold toward David’s zeal (v. 16). We must guard against a critical spirit that mocks the passion of others for the Lord.

FORMAL PRAYER

Most Holy God, teach us to worship Thee with both awe and abandonment. May we never become cynical or cold, but always rejoice in Thy presence with a humble and sincere heart. Amen.
