Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Samuel 12 recounts Nathan’s confrontation of David. Through a parable, Nathan leads David to condemn himself. David repents, but Nathan declares the consequences: the death of the child and future violence in David’s own house.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Power of Confrontation: "Thou art the man" (v. 7). We all need "Nathans" in our lives—faithful friends who love us enough to tell us the painful truth.
2. The Reality of Forgiveness and Consequences: God put away David’s sin, but the "sword" never departed from his house (v. 10, 13). We are forgiven by grace, but we still reap what we sow in this life.
3. Worship in the Midst of Loss: When his child died, David went into the house of God and worshipped (v. 20). True faith accepts God’s judgment and still chooses to praise Him.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, give us a heart that repents quickly when confronted with sin. We thank Thee for Thy mercy that forgives us, and we ask for strength to endure the consequences of our past mistakes. Amen.
