Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Corinthians 16 concludes the letter with instructions for the collection for the saints in Jerusalem, Paul’s future travel plans, and final greetings. It contains the exhortation to "stand fast in the faith" and to do all things with charity.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Systematic Giving: Paul advises setting aside money "upon the first day of the week" as God has prospered (v. 2). Financial support of the ministry should be a planned and regular part of our spiritual life.
2. Watchfulness and Courage: We are called to "watch" and "quit you like men" (v. 13). Christian life requires spiritual alertness, masculine strength of character, and a refusal to be swayed by the world.
3. The Final Warning and Blessing: The letter ends with "Maranatha"—the Lord cometh (v. 22). Our daily interactions and final thoughts should be colored by the expectation of Jesus’ return.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord Jesus, our coming King: help us to stand fast in the faith and to be strong in Thy grace. May all our deeds be done with charity, and may we live every day in the light of Thy return. Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
