Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Corinthians 6 rebukes the practice of believers taking each other to secular courts and warns against sexual immorality. Paul reminds the believers that their bodies are members of Christ and temples of the Holy Spirit, bought with a price.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Resolving Internal Conflicts: Believers should be able to resolve disputes within the church rather than seeking justice from the world (v. 1-5). It is better to suffer wrong than to damage the church’s testimony.
2. The Price of Redemption: We are not our own; we were "bought with a price" (v. 19-20). This ownership by God should govern how we use our bodies, minds, and resources.
3. Fleeing Immorality: Unlike other sins, sexual immorality is a sin against one’s own body (v. 18). The biblical command is not to argue with temptation, but to flee from it.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord Jesus, who hast redeemed us with Thy precious blood: help us to remember that we are Thine. Grant us the wisdom to settle our differences in love and the strength to glorify Thee in our bodies and spirits. Amen.
