Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Corinthians 4 discusses the nature of true apostleship, emphasizing faithfulness and humility. Paul defends his ministry, describing the apostles as "spectacles to the world" and "fools for Christ’s sake," calling the Corinthians to imitate his fatherly example.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Requirement of Faithfulness: It is required in stewards that a man be found faithful (v. 2). God does not demand "success" as the world defines it, but a consistent loyalty to the trust He has given us.
2. Avoiding Premature Judgment: We should not judge others or ourselves before the Lord comes (v. 5). He alone can reveal the hidden counsels of the heart and give every man his proper praise.
3. Power Over Talk: The Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power (v. 20). We should seek the actual transformation of lives rather than merely impressive religious language.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord, who judgest the secrets of all hearts: grant that we may be found faithful stewards of Thy mysteries. Deliver us from pride and help us to live not in word only, but in the power of Thy Holy Spirit. Amen.
