Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Corinthians 15 is the definitive New Testament chapter on the Resurrection. Paul argues that if Christ did not rise, faith is vain; however, since He did rise as the "firstfruits," all believers will also be raised in incorruptible bodies at His coming.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Core of the Gospel: The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ according to the Scriptures is the "first of all" importance (v. 3-4). We must keep the Resurrection at the center of our message and our hope.
2. The Transformation of the Body: We will be changed from "corruptible" to "incorruptible" (v. 52-53). This promise gives us comfort in the face of aging, disease, and the death of loved ones.
3. Steadfast Labor: Because the Resurrection is true, our "labor is not in vain in the Lord" (v. 58). This assurance should motivate us to be steadfast and unmovable in our service for Christ.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Victorious Savior, who hast swallowed up death in victory: we adore Thee for Thy glorious Resurrection. Grant that we may stand firm in this hope and always abound in Thy work, knowing that in Thee, death has lost its sting. Amen.
