Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Chronicles 9 lists the inhabitants of Jerusalem after the return from the Babylonian exile, emphasizing the priests, Levites, and porters who restored the service of the Temple.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Remnant that Returns: After the exile, some chose to return and rebuild. God always has a people willing to restore what has been broken.
2. Faithfulness in Small Tasks: The "porters" (gatekeepers) had a vital role in protecting the sanctity of the Temple (v. 17-27). No task in God’s kingdom is "small" or unimportant.
3. Restoring the Routine of Grace: The first thing they did was restore the daily service. To rebuild our lives, we must first restore our daily habits of prayer and worship.

FORMAL PRAYER

Grant us the courage to be among those who rebuild and restore. Help us to be faithful in the tasks Thou hast given us, protecting the purity of Thy work with a joyful heart. Amen.
