Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Chronicles 14 details David’s victories over the Philistines and his growing fame. David twice inquires of the Lord before battle, demonstrating his dependence on divine strategy.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Inquiring Again and Again: David didn’t assume the second battle would be like the first; he asked God again (v. 14). Yesterday’s strategy may not be sufficient for today’s challenge.
2. The Sound of Going: God told David to wait for the sound in the tops of the mulberry trees (v. 15). We must wait for God’s "timing" and "signal" before we rush into action.
3. God Goes Before Us: The victory at Baal-perazim shows that God is the "Lord of breakthroughs." He breaks through our enemies like a flood.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord of the Breakthrough, we inquire of Thee this day. Lead us by Thy Spirit, tell us when to wait and when to move, and go before us to defeat the obstacles in our path. Amen.
