Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Chronicles 21 recounts David’s sin in numbering Israel. After the plague, David purchases the threshingfloor of Ornan (Araunah) and offers a sacrifice, marking the future site of the Temple.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Price of Pride: Counting the people was an act of self-reliance (v. 1). We must never let our success tempt us to stop depending on God’s grace.
2. Choosing God’s Mercy: David chose to fall into the hand of God rather than man (v. 13). God’s discipline is always tempered by His immense compassion.
3. Sacrifice Must Cost: David refused to offer what cost him nothing (v. 24). True worship requires a personal sacrifice of our time, resources, or ego.

FORMAL PRAYER

Forgive us, Lord, for our moments of self-reliance. Help us to offer Thee a worship that is sincere and sacrificial, recognizing that all we have belongs to Thee. Amen.
