And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

Esther 6 Study & Commentary

Esther 6 is the turning point. The king, unable to sleep, hears the record of Mordecai’s loyalty. He forces Haman to honor Mordecai publicly, the very man Haman intended to hang that day.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The King’s Insomnia: God uses even a sleepless night to bring about justice (v. 1). There are no "coincidences" in the life of a believer.
2. The Irony of Divine Justice: Haman ended up honoring the man he hated. God knows how to turn the tables on the enemy in the most unexpected ways.
3. Delayed is Not Denied: Mordecai’s reward came at the exact moment it was needed to save the nation. Trust God’s timing; He is never late.

FORMAL PRAYER

We marvel, O Lord, at Thy perfect timing and Thy strange ways. Thank Thee for fighting our battles in the night and for being the God who honors the faithful at the perfect moment. Amen.
