Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Esther 4 records the Jewish mourning and the famous dialogue between Mordecai and Esther. Mordecai challenges her to intervene, suggesting she was brought to the kingdom "for such a time as this."
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. For Such a Time as This: Your current position, skills, and relationships are not accidental (v. 14). God has placed you where you are for a specific purpose in His kingdom.
2. The Call to Fast: Before acting, Esther asked for a collective fast (v. 16). In times of crisis, our first move should be spiritual, not political.
3. "If I Perish, I Perish": True faith involves risk. Esther moved from the comfort of the palace to the danger of the throne room out of obedience and love for her people.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord, reveal to us the purpose for which Thou hast brought us to this time and place. Grant us the courage to step out in faith, saying "If I perish, I perish," trusting in Thy sovereign care. Amen.
